Some Photos

A fellow stall holder at Rose Street Artists Market gave me a cd of photos that her photographer friend (Carla Gottgens) took. The photos were of me! They were taken a wee while ago while I was printing at the Australian Print Workshop. You can see me struggling to turn the wheel of the lovely old printing press!

Also I should announce that Rose Street Artists Market is now open on Sundays as well as Saturdays. The stalls on each day will be different, it's a chance to get more artists/ makers involved in Rose Street Market. I will continue to do Saturdays until mid September, then I'll be packing up all my things and heading over to Belfast, Northern Ireland to see what's happening there!

At Market

My friend Christina who has a stall beside me at Rose Street Artists' Market just sent me these pictures of my market stall. Market is such fun, even if it is freezing cold in winter and so hot hot hot in summer! Working from home can be so isolating, I think I would go a bit insane if I didn't get to see everyone on Saturdays, and then we all go to the pub for a nice meal and a glass of wine after.

A Flurry of Work

How I LOVE my studio! I was in it all day yesterday and made so many things. I have three markets this weekend so I thought I'd better get onto it.

The first is on Friday night from 7 till 9ish at Thread Den in North Melbourne as part of their 57 Chevy fashion show. The fashion show starts at 6 and includes local designers. It should be great fun and there is a 50's theme with a 50's cocktail after party. Everyone is invited!

Second market is good old Rose Street Artists' Market in Fitzroy that I love doing and then on Sunday there is the art market at Abbotsford Convent. So many markets, I need to get back to my studio!!!

Here is a little peek at what I've been making. These are for a 'bird on wire' series, I'm thinking of making a card set and button badges, hopefully finished by Friday. I screenprinted the little birds
yesterday, they are small, maybe about (paper size) 7 cm.

I then brought them all down to Jeremy's sound studio because he's been needing to record the sound of a sewing machine for a project he's working on at the moment. (I got him to bring the sewing machine, it's so heavy!) and I sewed the 'wires' in while he recorded. I quite liked the set up, us both working in the same room, tables face to face!

A Felt Species of Bird

I've been playing around with a needle and thread and lovely colours of felt and although my back and shoulders are getting worse and worse I am enjoying myself greatly! Here are my new creations which I will soon list on etsy and take with me to Rose Street Artist's Market on Saturday.


I just remembered this story as I was correcting my spelling of Saturday. I've never been the best speller, I was always in the catch up classes at primary school. I always found it difficult to spell the names of the days I wasn't at school and the months when I was on holiday. 'Saturday' and 'August' particularly as I never really had need of writing them regularly while at school. By now in my 30th year I have mastered how to spell 'August' and 'July' and 'Sunday' (although that was always a fairly easy one) but I was never sure whether it was 'Saterday' or 'Saturday' until my brother told me, "just remember there is a turd in Saturday." Simple! Very brotherly.

Gripes and Awards

The conditions have been 100% perfect today for drying washing. Hot temperature (max 39 degrees celcius, (over 100 fahrenheit)) and warm winds. My undies are blowing on the line, dry in half an hour. YET STILL, still my neighbours are using the tumbledryer. WHY?! It's been tumbling all day. I managed to ask one of them. I said 'would it not be quicker to use the line today?" and he replied "but then my towels wouldn't be fluffy."
Fluffy towels indeed. For some reason this makes me very cross. I'm not an eco warrior, but the tumbledryer just doesn't make sense on a day like this. (he's just walked past my window with another load grrrrrr!)

Anyway, griping aside.

Last night was the opening and award giving of the Port Jackson Press Graduate Printmaking Award. I am pleased to say my piece (also below) was highly commended. The overall winner was Glenda Orr who I think well deserved the award, her piece was beautiful.


Tomorrow I'll be at Rose Street Artist Market which will be another hot hot hot one. At least I'll be next to AnnaLaura, looking forward to it!

Market Stall Logistical Solutions

Since starting doing markets back in November I have been relying on other people to get me and my stuff to the market places. Big thankyous to Hayley who has driven me around, big thankyous to Barry for lending me his car on occasions and a big thankyou to Jeremy for early morning drives to Camberwell.
From now on though I'm going to be self-sufficient and eco-friendly! It's going to be just me and my bike going to Rose Street Artist's Market. The fact that Rose Street supply the tables/boxes makes life so much easier.

Now I just need to buy a length of rope and learn a few good knotting techniques. I'll show you the results on Saturday! But for the time being marvel upon my great carrying machine.

On my way to the bike shop to get the rack fixed I stopped off for lunch. There is a lovely little place on Smith Street called Wood Spoon that cooks lovely Japanese food and at a very good price. Yum! Here is a picture I drew while eating my delicious lunch.
